Best women's-cut blanks

A women's program needs shirts cut for the people who'll wear them, whether that's a boutique line, a volleyball club, or a staff uniform. You're choosing two things at once: the fiber and the cut. The fiber decides which decoration methods will work. The cut can be slim, classic, boxy, oversized, a tank, or a polo. Pick the fiber for your method first, and the cut then narrows the field to one or two styles.

Which fiber works with your decoration method?

Use cotton for DTG and discharge, a 60/40 blend when one order runs through several methods, and polyester for sublimation. Embroidery depends more on weight than fiber.

Running DTG or discharge?

Stay with cotton. The Tultex 213 and Comfort Colors 3023CL are both 100% cotton, so screen print, DTG, discharge, and DTF all go down cleanly. Mixing methods on one order?

The 60/40 blends are the forgiving choice here. The two Next Level styles and the LAT 3525 are 60/40 cotton-poly, so screen print, DTG, HTV, and DTF all work on them. Discharge is off the table. With only 40% poly, a sublimated print comes out faded.

One general rule for blends applies on dark colors. The polyester can bleed shirt dye into light plastisol, and a low-cure ink or a blocker under-base helps.

Sublimating?

Go polyester. The AllPro 48000L, CORE365 CE10W, Team 365 TT11W, and CORE365 78181 polo are all 100% polyester, so sublimation comes out vibrant and HTV bonds well. Screen printing them takes more care, since all-poly fabric can bleed dye into the ink on dark colors. DTG isn't a fit.

The AllPro 62800L polo is 65% poly, so it sublimates with vibrant color too. HTV works on it as well.

Embroidering?

Heavier fabric holds stitches better. The AllPro 62800L polo (6 oz), LAT 3525 (7.4 oz), and Comfort Colors 3023CL (6.1 oz) all have the structure to support a logo's stitching. The 3.5 oz Team 365 TT11W takes more care, since light fabric can pucker under stitches. A firm backing and a modest stitch count help.

Which cut do you need?

Start with how close to the body the shirt should sit. Women's cuts vary from brand to brand, so order one or two sizes as samples before you set the size breakdown.

• Close to the body: the Tultex 213 is a slim fit.
• Standard with a V: the Next Level 1540 is a classic fit.

Will it shrink?

The Comfort Colors 3023CL is the one to sample first. It's garment-dyed, so it shrinks more: the dye bath adds shrinkage on top of what the cotton does on its own. Wash and dry one sample, then measure it before you lock sizes. When sizes have to hold, the Tultex 213 is pre-shrunk.
