The crews in this guide run from a 5.3 oz raglan up to a 13.5 oz all-cotton heavyweight. That spread shapes your order more than the brand name does, because weight decides who wears the sweatshirt and when. Most of these are cotton-heavy fleece blends, and every one takes embroidery well. So pick by weight and fit first, then let your print method narrow it down.
Which crews are worth knowing?
These cover the main weights, fits and fibers in this category. They're listed heaviest first. If you're pricing lower-cost fleece instead, the core value hoodie guide covers the value tier.
- Independent Trading Co. Legend Heavyweight Cross-Grain Crew (IND5000C): 13.5 oz, 100% cotton ringspun fleece, unisex. Best for screen print, DTG, discharge and embroidery on one blank.
- Hanes Beefy Sweats Heavyweight Crew (OG600): 13 oz, 81% cotton / 19% polyester ringspun fleece, unisex. Best for embroidery and screen print on a heavy, cotton-forward crew.
- Hanes Beefy Sweats Heavyweight Quarter-Zip (OG900): 13 oz, 81% cotton / 19% polyester ringspun fleece, unisex quarter-zip. Best for embroidered logos on a heavier layer.
- Lane Seven Urban Crew (LS16004): 10 oz, 80% cotton / 20% polyester fleece, oversized unisex fit. Best for embroidery and print on a roomy cut.
- Comfort Colors Garment-Dyed Crew (1566): 9.5 oz, 80% cotton / 20% polyester ringspun fleece, relaxed fit, garment-dyed. Best for embroidery.
- Lane Seven Premium Crew (LS14004): 8.3 oz fleece, unisex. Best for embroidery, DTF and heat transfer vinyl.
- Rabbit Skins Toddler Fleece Crew (3317): 7.5 oz, 60% cotton / 40% polyester, toddler sizing. Best for embroidery. Screen print, DTG, DTF and vinyl all work on its 60/40 blend too.
- Independent Trading Co. Icon Lightweight Loopback Terry Crew (SS1000C): 7.5 oz, 55% cotton / 45% polyester ringspun terry, slim unisex fit. Best for embroidery and screen print.
- LAT Women's Weekend Crew (3525): 7.4 oz, 60% cotton / 40% polyester ringspun combed fleece, oversized women's fit. Best for embroidery, DTG and screen print.
- LAT Unisex Fleece Crew (6925): 7.4 oz, 60% cotton / 40% polyester ringspun combed fleece, unisex. Best for embroidery, DTG and screen print.
- Comfort Colors Garment-Dyed Lightweight Crew (1466): 6.4 oz ringspun jersey, relaxed fit, garment-dyed. Best for embroidery.
- Next Level Laguna Raglan Crew (9000): 5.3 oz, 60% cotton / 40% polyester fleece, unisex raglan. Best for DTG, screen print and DTF on a light layer.
How heavy should the crew be?
Go 13 oz or up for a cold-weather outer layer, and toward 5.3 oz for a light pullover. The 13 to 13.5 oz crews from Hanes and Independent weigh about two and a half times as much as the 5.3 oz Laguna, so they sit at opposite ends of the year.
Most of the blends land in between, at 7 to 10 oz. That group includes both LAT crews, the Rabbit Skins toddler crew and the Lane Seven Urban.
Every style here from 6.4 oz up holds its shape through wear, without much stretch or sag. The 5.3 oz Laguna is the exception. Expect it to relax a little with wear, which suits a light, easy layer. Weighing the same choice for hooded fleece? The pullover hoodie guide walks through it.
Which fit do I need?
Fit splits the styles in this guide more than fabric does, so decide who's wearing it before you pick a brand.
For a roomy look, two styles are cut oversized: the Lane Seven Urban and the LAT 3525, which is a women's cut. Both Comfort Colors crews run relaxed, so they give you a roomier shape too. If your buyers want a closer cut, the Independent SS1000C has a slim unisex fit.
Two jobs have a single answer. For kids' orders, the Rabbit Skins 3317 is the toddler option. For a staff or coaching layer where a zip collar matters, the Hanes OG900 is the one quarter-zip here.
Which decoration methods work?
Embroidery works on every crew here. Print is where they differ, so check your method against the style before you order.
Will embroidery sit well?
Yes. Every crew here has enough body to hold stitches, so a left-chest logo will sit well on any of them. The 5.3 oz Laguna is the lightest base in the group, and it still takes a logo well. If stitching is your main method, the best blanks for embroidery guide goes deeper on backing and placement.
Which crews print best?
The Independent IND5000C is the strongest print blank. It's 100% cotton, so screen print, DTG and discharge all go down cleanly. It's also the only style here that takes discharge.
The 60/40 and 80/20 blends take screen print and DTG well, with a little less fine detail on DTG than pure cotton gives. On dark colors, poly blends can let dye bleed into light inks. That's a general rule for blends, and a low-bleed ink or a blocker under-base helps.
Which crews need a test print first?
The Independent SS1000C needs the most planning. With 45% polyester in the blend, dye can bleed into light inks on dark colors, so print a test piece first. Color can also vary from one dye batch to the next. That matters most on heather colors, so keep reorders to one batch where you can. DTG isn't the best fit for this blend, so screen print or DTF is the better route on this one.
The Lane Seven LS14004 and the Comfort Colors 1466 are less predictable under screen print and DTG. On those two, run a sample before the bulk order, or switch to DTF or vinyl, which both go down reliably.
Will garment-dyed crews shrink?
Plan for it on the two Comfort Colors crews. The 1566 and 1466 are garment-dyed, so expect them to shrink more in the wash. In general, dyeing a finished garment adds shrink on top of the fabric's own.
Before you lock a size breakdown on either one, wash and dry one sample the way the wearer will and measure it. Do the same sample wash on any style when sizes must hold exactly.
Which crew fits which job?
If you need one crew that handles whatever method the next client asks for, pick the Independent IND5000C. It's 13.5 oz of 100% cotton, so screen print, DTG, embroidery and discharge all work on it. No other style on this list covers all four.
